The Eucalyptus, an Australian origin plant, is extremely resitant to breakage. It has been introduced to Africa, notably in Cameroon since 1860. There are 540 species such as the globulus, the gigantea, the marginata and especially the saligna, which is used as wood-poles.

Cut down after a minimum of ten years, barked, dried, worked, ringed and treated chemically with "Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBS)", it has a 25 years minimal longevity. In Cameroon, it is cultivated especially on the Western and Northwestern mountainious laterite grounds of the country. The Eucalyptus saligna is characterized by its brownish color and its resistance to wind which never breaks it. Even standing and when cut and dried before treatment, it is similar to iron, where its universal recommendation for its electrical and telephone line usage.
