Current establishment level consists of:

Thirty-six Professional Geomatics Engineers and GIS Specialists.

Five professional consultant associates in Land Use Planning, Remote Sensing, Resource Assessment and Land & Water Management.

Twelve professional Photogrammetrists.

Fifteen experienced geomatics technicians and cartographers.

Aerial Photogrammetry

Wild RC10 aerial camera complete with circuitry and control unit, Drive unit, PAV10 universal mount, Pem 1 Exposure meter, NF22 Navigation sight, UAGII 152 and 88 mm Lens cones, Filter for UAGII Lens, and 3 film magazines (currently leased out).
Long term lease of two aeroplanes. These are turbocharged twin engine planes licensed in Kenya. Geomaps maintains the part-time leases only for times of need of photography in order to avoid high maintenance expenses during the times that photography is not being taken. Needless to say, aerial photography takes very short periods in good weather.

Map Production Equipment

Ideal FSC 8010 D3P wide format colour scanner (A0) complete with vectorizing software I/Vector, Raster Editor, Region Editor, Message Centre, and Layer Manager. This scanner has 800 dpi resolution in RGB (24 bit)
WILD TA10S high precision electronic flatted plotting table, multipen and multicolor. The utilities of this instrument include scribing facilities for map publishing preparations.
Hewlett Packard Designjet 2500 CP (size A0) electrostatic colour plotter. This is a very versatile type of raster plotter. It is wide format with Adobe PostScript Level 3. It has built-in RIP, 78 GB HD, and HP JetDirect card with Ethernet connectivity.
Hewlett Packard HP750C (size A0) electrostatic colour plotter. Geomaps has enhanced its HP750C up to 71MB memory to be able to handle automated printing of a lot of data without human intervention.
Adequate drawing office-supporting equipment including rotring CS100 scribers, digital planimeters light tables, etc

Three (3) digitizing tables (Numonics and Sumagraphics) complete with applications.

Ten (10) desktop scanners. These are 1200 dpi colour scanners with SCSI configuration for high performance

Fifty (50) powerful computers for data processing in Unix, Windows 2000 and Windows XP environments. All the PC's are networked including the mapping UNIX terminals.

Ten HP Deskjet and Laserjet colour printers (A4 & A3 formats).

Adequate equipment for administrative and office services.

Ground Survey

Three (3) sets of Ashtech Super C/A geodetic GPS receivers with 12 channels 1 pps option, complete with all accessories. Computed geodetic measurements from these receivers will be to 1-cm accuracy. Three (3) sets of Ashtech XII geodetic GPS receives with 12 channel 1pps and photogrammetric options complete with all accessories. Computed Geodetic measurements from these receivers will be to 1-cm accuracy.
Eleven (11) sets of Ashtech Locus geodetic GPS receivers with 12 channels 1 pps option complete with all accessories. Computed geodetic measurements from these receivers will be to 1-cm accuracy.
Ten (10) sets of Leica and Topcon Total Stations including Wild and Zeiss universal electronic theomats complete with all full range accessories.
Three sets Ashtech Z-12 geodetic receivers complete with radio modems for Teal Time Kinematic (RTK) GPS surveys to accuracies of 1 cm.

Three Husky FS/2 and four Compaq-FS palm survey field computers (handheld) with full range logistical survey and GPS data manipulation software.

Three (3) Wild GIF 12 Digital data loggers complete with survey software.

Eight (8) Automatic levels of various makes (Wild NA20, Kern GKO-A, Wild NA24, Wild NA30, and Pentax).

Field survey accessories and peripheral equipment adequate for 20 teams. These include photo cameras, tribraches, tripods, staves, reflectors, batteries, prism holders, battery chargers, data cables, altimeters, binoculars, thermometers, scales, pocket calculators, walkie-talkie radios, compasses,and general survey items.

Routine Cheking of Digital Instruments

Digital Photogrammetric Mapping

Fully equipped photogrammetric laboratory including a Wild BC3 analytical digital photogrammetric stereo plotter with full range accessories. This encompasses a complete UNIX workstation and is one of the system clients for the Geomaps digital mapping local network One Aviosoft digital mapping workstation with large data storage and handling capacity. This station is used mainly for editing and compilation of final maps in Atlas format. It is also used for data conversions from Atlas to other formats e.g. DXF (AutoCAD), DGN (Microstation), ASCII, etc. for other environments using KLT data conversion software.
Six (6) Digital Photogrammetric Workstations (Precision digital mapping equipment) DPW 770 consisting of high performance hardware and world standard digital mapping software. The attached computers comprise of Raid5 system, Dual processors, Dual graphics on each (for stereo extraction), Dual 21” 150 MHz monitors, RGB emitter, Crystal Eyes Eyewear, Helava 3-D Hard Controller, 4mm Sony tape drives, Ultra - SCSI controllers, 100 BT network card, 32X read & write CD drive.
The workstations run licenses for digital mapping software including, CORE SOCET, STEREO, MOSAIC, FEATURE, MAP,HATS, PRO600, MICROSTATION, CONVERT, Easy Copy, TerraModeler, PhotoShop, etc
Werhli RM-1 Rastermaster precision photoscanner for colour and monochrome aerial photography and satellite imagery diapositives. Geometric resolution is 0.5 micron. Leica SD2000 analytical digital photogrammetric workstation (Stereo plotter), with full range accessories. This also encompasses a UNIX workstation and is one of the system clients for the Geomaps digital mapping local network.
